Setting up sync (Drive, OneDrive, WebDAV, folder)
How does Keepsake sync between devices?
Sync replicates the vault as encrypted blobs through storage you already own — a hidden app folder in Google Drive or OneDrive, a WebDAV server, or any folder including a NAS or USB stick. Set it up in Settings, Sync on the first device, then point the others at the same location. Keepsake runs no sync servers and cannot read what is replicated. Sync is a Premium feature.
Pick a provider
- Google Drive — Keepsake uses a hidden app-only folder (
drive.appdata). It never sees the rest of your Drive. - OneDrive — an app folder under
Apps/Keepsake, same idea. - WebDAV — any Nextcloud/ownCloud or generic WebDAV server; enter URL, username and password.
- Folder — point Keepsake at any folder: a NAS share, a Syncthing folder, even a USB stick. Zero accounts, zero cloud.
Connect the first device
- Open Settings → Sync → Set up.
- Choose the provider and sign in when prompted (Google/Microsoft sign-in happens directly with them, on your device; the tokens are stored encrypted inside your vault).
- Tap Sync now. The first push uploads your encrypted vault.
Connect the other devices
Repeat the same setup with the same provider and account. On a device with no vault yet, choose Restore from sync — it rebuilds the full vault, including tags and history, from the cloud copy.
How conflicts are handled
Keepsake syncs operations, not whole files. Edit a tag on the phone and a note on the PC and both changes survive — merges are deterministic and order-independent. Deletions propagate too.
Privacy note: your provider sees only ciphertext blobs with meaningless names. Anyone who breaks into the folder gets encrypted bytes and no keys.
