Saving pages from your browser (clipper)

Plenty of documents never exist as a file: the bank statement that only renders as a web page, the booking confirmation, the order receipt. The Keepsake Clipper saves those into your web vault without a download folder in between.

The clipper is not in the Chrome Web Store yet — it installs from the folder as described below. Nothing about how it works changes when it is listed.

Install it

  1. Open chrome://extensions (Edge: edge://extensions) and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Choose Load unpacked and select the clipper folder from the Keepsake repository.
  3. Open app.securekeepsake.com, unlock your vault, and leave that tab open.

Save a page

  1. On the page you want to keep, click the Keepsake button in the toolbar.
  2. Press Save this page to Keepsake.
  3. Your vault tab comes forward with the normal Save clipped page dialog — title, category, expiry and tags, with OCR already run on the capture. Check it and press Encrypt & store.

If the tab is itself a PDF or an image, the original file is saved. Anything else is captured as a full-page picture of what you were looking at, scrolled and stitched together.

What the extension can and cannot do

  • It cannot read your vault. There is no message in its protocol that asks for anything; it only pushes bytes in.
  • It never sees your password or your keys. Encryption happens in the vault tab, after you confirm.
  • It stores nothing. A clip lives in memory until your vault accepts it. If your vault is locked, the clip waits in the tab and is offered as soon as you unlock — close the tab and it is gone.
  • Every clip needs your confirmation. Nothing is saved silently.

Worth being blunt about the trade-off: installing any extension widens what something that already controls your browser could push into your vault. It does not widen what it could take out.

Limits

  • Chrome and Edge for now. Firefox's extension platform differs enough that we would rather ship it tested than claim it.
  • A page capture is a picture of the page as you saw it — not a rebuilt copy. Content that only loads as you scroll, or that reflows while scrolling, can come out imperfect. The preview in the save dialog shows you exactly what will be stored.
  • Very long pages stop after 24 screens, and the dialog says so.
  • Clips are capped at 25 MB. Larger documents are better downloaded and added as files.

If nothing happens

  • Make sure a Keepsake tab is open at app.securekeepsake.com — the clipper opens one if it can, but it needs it to finish loading.
  • Browser settings pages (chrome://…) cannot be clipped; nor can pages your browser blocks extensions from reading.
  • On a page that needs a login, sign in first: the clipper downloads the file as you, using the session already in the tab.
